The paintings of Fried-rich Overbeck (1789-1869), Alfred Rethel (1816-1859) and Philipp Veit (1793-1877) are characteristic of the so-called Nazarene school, one of the currents in German Romanticism.

The display includes also genre paintings by Ludwig Knaus (1829- 1910) and Wilhelm Leibl (1836-1904) and a pastel by Max Lieber-mann (1847-1935), the principal representative of Impressionism in Germany.
